Restriction digests of the clone give the following sizes (kb): BamHI--8.2, 1.0; HindIII--8.2, 1.0. A wide range of transcription levels can be obtained by varying the nitrogen source in the medium. Transcription can be immediately stopped by the introduction of oxygen and ammonia. The spcR marker is expressed in R. capsulatus.
