Infected BS-C-1 cells (ATCC CCL-26) slowly develop cytoplasmic eosinophilic inclusions.
Will not grow in Rhesus Kidney cells. Must by cultivated at 33-35C, will not grow at 37C. Has group antigen for Poxvirus, crosses slightly with vaccinia and monkeypox and is less stable. Does not hemagglutinate.
Effect on Host
Causes tumor (Histiocytoma) in vivo, and microfoci at limiting dilution in CV-1 cells
