zif268 is induced in mouse 3T3 cells by serum, tetradecanoylphorbol acetate, PDGF, and FGF. Induction is coordinate with c-fos. Genomic 5' flanking regions contain multiple serum response elements (SRE) which compete with the c-fos SRE.
Encodes a protein of 533 amino acids with three typical zinc finger sequences.
Between the polyadenylation signals at the 3' end of the message are two ATTTA sequences, related to the message instability characteristics of immediate early mRNAs.
Homologous to NGFI-A, which is activated in rat pheochromocytoma cells by nerve growth factor. Within the zinc finger region it is related to the Krox gene family (Krox24).
