XbaI (insert) and HindIII (vector) ends filled in and blunt-end ligated so insert can be removed by XbaI digest; strongest hybridization to fragments of 680, 1020, 1360, 850, 1870 bp generated by XbaI-cut DNA.
Hybridizes with all centromeric regions but Y; 64% hybridization signal at centromeres; 43% total label on D and G group chromosomes; no hybridization detected at telomeres.
Sequence of pE1 differs from that in pF5 by 15 nucleotides; hybridizes with DNA from chimpanzee, gorilla, weakly with orangutan, not with gibbon, Old or New World monkeys.
Hybridizes to certain fragments in HinfI and HindIII digested DNA; but little or no repeat sequence homology seen with EcoRI, KpnI, or PstI-digested DNA; XbaI repeat composed of 4 tandem repeats of 171, 170, 171, 170 bp.
