Biosafety classification is based on U.S. Public Health Service Guidelines, it is the responsibility of the customer to ensure that their facilities comply with biosafety regulations for their own country.
The ade12-1 allele blocks adenylsuccinate synthetase enzymatic activity, but does not affect the regulatory activity of this gene. Unlike mutations in most of the other adenine genes (except for ade13), the ade12 mutation does not allow for growth on media lacking adenine but containing hypoxanthine. ade12 strains grow poorly even on YEPD medium.
